WHAT IS BOTOX®?

Botox® is an injectable treatment that is delivered using a thin, fine-gauge needle. Botox® restores and diminishes fine lines and wrinkles along with other visible signs of aging. Botox® was first approved for medical reasons in 1979 and, then, for cosmetic reasons in 2001. There are almost 40 years of experience with Botox®.

HOW DOES BOTOX® WORK?

Botox® is short for botulinum toxin type A, an agent that temporarily relaxes and immobilizes facial muscles, resulting in smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin. It works by blocking the nerve receptors on muscles. Botox® is injected directly into various strategic areas of the skin using a fine-gauge needle to target the wrinkles, lines, and creases in that area. A single treatment lasts about three to four months, and patients return for follow-up injections. Over time, the facial muscles treated become naturally relaxed, and the number of follow-up treatments will often be reduced.

WHAT CONDITIONS DOES BOTOX® TREAT?

Botox® is great for eliminating wrinkles, lines, and creases caused by repetitive gestures and facial expressions. By temporarily relaxing these muscles, the gestures are repeated less often, diminishing the cause of these lines and wrinkles. Botox® has consistently provided effective treatment for the following skin conditions, as well as conditions not related to the skin, as follows:

  • Wrinkles, lines, and creases on the face
  • Skin that has lost firmness and elasticity
  • Migraines
  • Over-active bladder
  • Excessive underarm perspiration

WHO SHOULD CONSIDER BOTOX® TREATMENT?

Any adult in good health who desires a more youthful appearance may be a good candidate for Botox® treatment, assuming there are no contraindicated conditions. Botox® is recommended as a preventative treatment for younger skin to help protect against wrinkles and lines in the future. Some of our patients start in their 20s, and some of our patients continue Botox® treatment in their 80s! If you want to diminish the appearance of wrinkles, creases, and fine lines from your face, Botox® may be the ideal solution for you.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR BOTOX®?

At your consultation, our team will evaluate your medical history to make sure you are a good candidate for Botox® treatment.

HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX® COST IN CENTRAL FLORIDA?

The price of Botox® varies according to the number of injections and treatments that you require. Cost estimates range from $200 to $800. Since Botox® is an elective cosmetic procedure, health insurance will not cover it. For our patients’ convenience and to help manage costs not covered by insurance, our office accepts various payment methods. Consider bringing a friend new to our practice to our Beautiful Skin Friday events.

BOTOX® USES

  • Botox for TMJ – Pain in the temporomandibular joint is often caused by overactive jaw muscles that can be relaxed with precise Botox injections.
  • Botox for headaches – People suffering from chronic headaches might be able to find relief through a Botox treatment in the muscles that cause the pain.
  • Botox for sweating – Botox has been indicated for excess sweating in the palms, feet, and underarms.
  • Botox for jowls – When injected precisely in qualified patients, Botox can help lift the appearance of jowls and the jawline.
  • Botox for hooded eyes – If you’re not a good candidate for surgery, Botox might be able to help lift the appearance of the eyes by dampening muscles that hold them down.
  • Botox for hyperhidrosis – Hyperhidrosis occurs when you sweat to excess in certain areas of the body. Botox can temporarily shut down sweat glands for relief from hyperhidrosis.
  • Botox for bruxism – Bruxism can lead to dental problems and pain, which can be stopped with Botox injections into the overly clenched muscles.
  • Botox for forehead wrinkles – One of Botox’s most popular treatments is lessening the appearance of forehead wrinkles when you raise your eyebrows.
  • Botox for gummy smile – A Botox treatment for an overly gummy smile involves relaxing the upper lip subtly to prevent it from revealing the upper gumline.
  • Botox for crow’s feet – Perhaps the most recognizable Botox benefit is for reducing the appearance of the wrinkles at the corners of your eyes, otherwise called crow’s feet.
  • Botox for under eye wrinkles – In some cases, Botox can prevent wrinkles from appearing in the delicate skin between the cheek and eyes due to overuse of facial muscles.
  • Botox for marionette lines – Depending on the cause and extent of your marionette lines, Botox can relax the mouth and chin muscles to prevent them from appearing.
  • Botox for forehead – Botox is easily injected to the forehead and brows for various effects to make the upper face smoother and wrinkle-free.
  • Botox for teeth grinding – Tooth grinding while sleeping or when awake can be relaxed with Botox injections that inhibit the muscles that cause it.
  • Botox for jaw clenching – Jaw clenching often leads to pain and headaches, which Botox can prevent by limiting the movement of the affected jaw muscles.
  • Botox for smile lines – Lines that appear around the mouth are easily prevented with mild injections of Botox before they appear.
  • Botox for wrinkles – Botox is a dynamic wrinkle relaxer, meaning it targets muscles that crinkle skin and cause folding throughout the face and neck.
  • Botox for laugh lines – A conservative amount of Botox is often highly effective at preventing or erasing fine laugh lines around the mouth.
  • Botox for eye wrinkles – Since the eyes are often the first to display aging signs at the corners and below the eyes, Botox treatments might help prevent premature aging by keeping muscles from damaging the skin above.
  • Botox for neck – Strained neck muscles often result in unpleasant aging signs like banding. Botox can help release that tension and improve the neck contour.
  • Botox for jawline – By releasing certain active muscles, Botox can be used for jawline contouring or jawline reduction.
  • Botox for jaw – The jawbone contains many key muscles that can cause pain if overused or strained.
  • Botox for eyebrow lift – A Botox brow lift offers the appearance of an upturned brow by subtly dropping the inner brow with its muscle relaxing formula.
  • Botox for eye twitch – One of the first uses of Botox was to prevent muscle spasms, including a chronic eye twitch.
  • Botox for neck pain – Strained muscles in and around the neck can be soothed with Botox injections to help people heal from pain.
  • Botox for lips – Botox used around the lips can help contour an asymmetrical or overly gummy smile.
  • Botox for frown lines – Frown lines are indicated for Botox injections between the brow to help people look less angry at rest.
  • Botox for droopy eyelid – Depending on the cause of the drooping lid, overactive muscles may be to blame, which Botox can stop.
  • Botox for nasolabial folds – Prevent the appearance of deep nasolabial folds with preventative Botox treatment around the mouth and nose.
  • Botox for strabismus – A common medical treatment for Botox is to correct muscle or nerve problems around the eyes that can cause strabismus.
